Maria Malone Guerbaa

My name is Maria Malone Guerbaa …

I have been an artist all my life, growing up in Ireland as well as having a great interest in movies and SFX. I hoped I would work in films one day and left for London to train in Makeup Artistry at the prestigious CBMA academy. This was a life changing experience for me. I have worked in the Barbican Theatre, Channel 4 “Horrible Histories” productions, BBC Drama “The Cut “ features for Sports Relief plus various commercials, films and West End Theatre Productions including “Rock of Ages and Viva.

While I was trying all these wonderful fields of makeup I was asked to help in my children’s schools fetes at Face Painting. This was my first time trying it and I loved it, my love of portraits and fine art reignited with face paint. My passion for illusion, art and portraits came alive. As a result I started painting myself at home and posting it on social media on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. The people I transformed myself into were based on film stars, musicians, skulls and more recently animals. These included portrayals of Stevie Wonder, Freddie Mercury and Nelson Mandela. This opened new opportunities to showcase my work and people were messaging me from around the globe. My work went viral and this was featured on TV programmes, newspapers and TV companies due to the wide response on social media. In 2014 was invited by the Makeup Artist Magazine to be a guest speaker at their IMATS London event. This was filmed by a TV crew from the USA. Following this I was a finalist in the NYX Cosmetics UK Face Awards which in turn led to an ambassador role with the company. I have now taught my techniques worldwide and teach regularly at CBMA where my journey began with makeup. My instagram followers are now 171k and when I post new designs my work goes viral. I work regularly with NYX Cosmetics UK, MAC Cosmetics and Smash Box. In 2018 I designed a colour palette for the Makeup store PAM titled Maria Malone. I personally selected the colours featured as these are the range colours I like to mix to achieve my popular designs. This palette is only available from

I personally love that people reach out to me and feel inspired and I hope I can continue to do this. This my 3rd year of judging at the Brush Wars Competition and I look forward to seeing all the entries this year.
