A progressive post graduate study of the anatomy and physiology of the skin relative to the professional skin care practitioner.
Without exception, a full and thorough understanding of the way in which a normal skin behaves is essential if we are to effectively promote its day to day health and address issues of its dysfunction. This is not a ‘dry’ biology study – the content of our advanced skin science course is referenced specifically to your work in treating the more complex and difficult skin conditions which you will be faced within an advanced aesthetic skin clinic.
On completion, you will have a solid basis on which to build further understanding and the content of our course is referenced specifically to your work in treating the more complex and difficult skin conditions which present themselves in the medispa clinic. Therefore, as a foundation to all other study of the skin, this element of the Level 4 course portfolio is essential for anyone wishing to specialise in remedial skin care and advanced aesthetic skin treatments.
This course is made up of one unit of study:
Unit 2 – Advanced Skin Science
Course Unit Format – 6 Modules:
Module 1 – The Histology & Physiology of the Epidermis
Module 2 – The Natural Barrier Function and Homeostasis of the Skin
Module 3 – The Extra Cellular Matrix of the Dermis
Module 4 – The Appendages, Specialist Histology & Secretions of the Skin.
Module 5 – The Defence Mechanisms of the Skin & Other Functions
Module 6 – The Physiology of the Skin Ageing Process
Optional additional unit:
Unit 7 – The Principles & Practices of the Medispa Sector
This unit of study can be added onto your qualification. It is made up of a series of one-day short courses, seminars and workshops to provide you with the opportunity to learn from some of the most prominent practitioners in the aesthetic industry. It is designed to enable you to gain additional knowledge and insight into a wide range of subject areas not included in your level 4 course but which are of interest to your future career or business progression

Course Assessment – Online multiple choice questions, written assessment workbook, portfolio compilation and final theory examination
Duration – This is completely flexible but, on average, you need to allow 24 guided learning hours plus private study time and assessment completion

Course entry requirements – one of the following:
Minimum of 5 GCCEs or equivalent plus a minimum of 1 A’Level ( Grade Cs or above)
Open access on assessment of suitability for learning at Level 4 PLUS – Fluency in English
Certification – The OFQUAL accredited CIBTAC | SALLY DURANT Level 4 Award in Advance Skin Science – graded at pass, merit or distinction.
